Correlation Between the Constant mi of Hoek-Brown Criterion and Porosity of Intact Rock

Mingming He et al.

Summary: The study proposes a new model to investigate the relationship between porosity and rock strength ratios, modifying the Hoek-Brown criterion to incorporate porosity instead of constants m(i) and s. Various rock tests show that the modified criterion effectively represents the impact of porosity on rock failure envelopes and can be used to estimate rock porosity and strength parameters.

Particle size distribution of aggregate effects on the reinforcing roles of carbon nanotubes in enhancing concrete ITZ

Yuan Gao et al.

Summary: Carbon nanotubes can enhance the properties of concrete interfacial transition zone by promoting hydration product growth and refining the microstructure. Adjusting the aggregate gradation of concrete is crucial to maximize the reinforcement effects of CNTs. However, both low and high Talbot indices can weaken the reinforcement effects of CNTs on concrete ITZ characteristics.

An Insight into the Excavation-Induced Stress Paths on Mechanical Response of Weak Interlayer Zone in Underground Cavern Under High Geostress

Shu-Qian Duan et al.

Summary: Through experimental tests and analysis, this study reveals the mechanical response characteristics of Weak Interlayer Zone (WIZ) under different loading and unloading stress paths, indicating that its mechanical properties are influenced by the initial confining pressure and stress paths. Additionally, the study shows that WIZ exhibits sudden increases in circumferential strain and significant dilations during unloading, with certain stress paths having more pronounced effects.

Geomechanical model test for analysis of surrounding rock behaviours in composite strata

Linken Shi et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the stability of surrounding rocks in composite strata under the disturbance of TBM excavation through geomechanical model tests. The results showed significant differences in mechanical behaviors of surrounding rocks as the strength ratio of the surrounding rocks decreased. The use of DSCM and macro-fracture morphology visually reflected the deformation differences of the composite rock mass.

Influence of Weak Interlayer on the Mechanical Performance of the Bolted Rock Mass with a Single Free Surface in Deep Mining

Shuxue Ding et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the weak interlayer has a significant impact on the compressive performance of bolted rock mass, especially when the strength of the weak interlayer is lower than 1.27 MPa, the thickness exceeds 20 mm, and the dip angle exceeds 15 degrees, the synergistic bearing effect will be significantly reduced and affect the mechanical performance of the specimens. The results provide valuable insights for understanding the influence of weak interlayers on mining engineering and guiding future mine reinforcement practices.

Zhong Shuheng et al.

Summary: This study used the limit equilibrium method to investigate the influence of different depths and dip angles of weak interlayers on the slope stability. The results indicate that increasing the buried depth of the weak layer and decreasing the dip angle can improve the safety factor of the slope.

Mechanical Characteristics and Damage Evolution Law of Sandstone with Prefabricated Cracks Under Cyclic Loading

Yuan Xu et al.

Summary: The experimental results showed that under cyclic loading, the elastic modulus, deformation modulus, residual strength, and peak strength increased linearly with the number of loading cycles. Additionally, as the crack dip angle (alpha) increased, the peak strength and crack initiation stress increased initially and then decreased, while the peak strength and crack initiation stress first decreased and then increased with an increase in crack bridge inclination angle (beta).
