Earlier onset of peripheral arterial thrombosis in homozygous MTHFR C677T carriers than in other MTHFR genotypes: a cohort study

Paul R. J. Ames et al.

Summary: This study found that carriers of the MTHFR T677T genotype have an earlier age at first presentation of pure peripheral arterial thrombosis (PAT) compared to other genotypes, with an average onset 4 to 8 years earlier. Dyslipidaemia and homocysteine (HC) levels were associated with the premature onset of PAT, and smoking was associated with lower limb PAT.

Neuroprotective effects of oleuropein: Recent developments and contemporary research

Masood Sadiq Butt et al.

Summary: Neurological disorders are increasing rapidly, and the Mediterranean diet with olives as a major component has been shown to prevent and improve such anomalies. Oleuropein, a bioactive component of the Olive tree, plays a neuroprotective role by inducing apoptosis and autophagy, enhancing antioxidants, and deactivating cells that lead to neuroinflammation. Regular intake of oleuropein is associated with decreased risks of various neural disorders. Natural remedies, such as oleuropein, provide a safer alternative to pharmaceutical drugs in treating neurological disorders.

Rates, Predictors, and Impact of Smoking Cessation after Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Jean Jacques Noubiap et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis summarized data on smoking cessation rates, predictors, and impact in patients after a stroke or TIA. Smoking cessation was associated with reduced risk of recurrent vascular events and death, with about half of smokers quitting after a stroke or TIA. Patients with low post-stroke disability, alcohol consumption, or depression were less likely to quit smoking, while intensive support programs increased the likelihood of cessation.

Inflammation and Oxidative Stress in Chronic Kidney Disease and Dialysis Patients

Thomas Ebert et al.

Summary: CKD is a lifestyle disease burden that shares common features and risk factors with aging process, composed of multiple adverse components like chronic inflammation, oxidative stress. A systemic approach to mitigate inflammation, cell stress and damage processes can attenuate CKD effects and preempt development and progression of associated morbidities. Senotherapeutics, NRF2-KEAP1 signaling pathway, klotho axis, SGLT2 inhibitors, and live bio-therapeutics have potential to reduce CKD burden and enhance quality of life in high-risk patients.

Nuts: Natural Pleiotropic Nutraceuticals

Emilio Ros et al.

Summary: Nuts are energy-dense foods with a complex mix of beneficial nutrients and bioactives that positively influence metabolic and vascular physiology pathways, improving cardiovascular risk factors and a variety of health outcomes. Studies show that nut consumption is associated with lower cancer incidence and mortality, improved cognitive function, and reduced risk of stroke.
