Cell spheroids containing bioactive molecule-immobilized porous particles with a leaf-stacked structure

Min Ji Kim et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that cell spheroids containing bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2)-immobilized polycaprolactone (PCL) particles could address the challenges of cellular heterogeneity, low structural stability, and uncontrolled cell differentiation. The porous leaf-stacked structure (LSS) particles were able to prevent cellular heterogeneity while providing a stable surface for cell adhesion, leading to effective osteogenic differentiation of stem cells and new bone formation. This approach represents a potential strategy to overcome the limitations of conventional cell spheroids and is a promising platform for tissue regeneration and high-throughput screening in pharmacology and toxicology studies.

Lattice-structured SiC ceramics obtained via 3D printing, gel casting, and gaseous silicon infiltration sintering

Yuli Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the preparation of silicon carbide ceramics with complex shapes using gel casting combined with 3D printing. The slurry preparation, gel curing, and ceramic molding processes were examined. The results showed that the ratio of components affected the fluidity and stability of the slurry. The temperature and initiator also influenced the gel curing speed. A 3D lattice-structured ceramic with high relative density and compressive strength could be obtained by gaseous silicon infiltration sintering.

Thermal reduction of graphene oxide in the presence of carbon suboxide

Ruta Aukstakojyte et al.

Summary: The study showed that the presence of C3O2 increases the chemical reactivity of GO and lowers the activation energy for thermal decomposition. The thermal decomposition of GO is found to involve both consecutive zero-order and first-order processes. Comparing enthalpy values, it was found that GO with C3O2 releases less energy during thermal reduction compared to pure GO.
