In this study, a model is proposed to predict the treatable size zones for acid reservoir stimulation, considering the coupling between well and reservoir using a 3D approach. The robust numerical code implemented using OpenFOAM(R) demonstrated that the 3D method provides qualitative and quantitative results that cannot be predicted by the simplified 2D model.
In the present work, we propose a model to predict treatable size zones for acid reservoir stimulation coupled with the flow in the well. We considered that the lower size scale details are modeled using the PVBT (pore volume to breakthrough) parameter. Both treatable and well zones processes were captured using a 3D approach considering its well-reservoir coupled characteristic. A robust numerical code was implemented using OpenFOAM (R) and tested for different completion situations. In addition, the code considers the effects of multilayer permeability-porosity reservoirs. Geometrically complex fields can be treated as well. The analysis has shown that there are cases where the 3D approach to this problem leads to qualitative and quantitative results that cannot be predicted by the simplified 2D model.
