Sex-specific Associations of Sex Hormone Binding Globulin with CKD and Kidney Function: A Univariable and Multivariable Mendelian Randomization Study in the UK Biobank

Jie Zhao et al.

Summary: A study using Mendelian randomization found that genetically predicted higher SHBG levels were associated with a lower risk of CKD in men but not in women. Even when controlling for testosterone, this effect remained significant in men.

Determinants of the Evolution of Kidney Function With Age

Anna C. van der Burgh et al.

Summary: The study identified prediabetes, smoking, and high blood pressure as modifiable risk factors for kidney function decline. Men and smokers showed a faster rate of decline in kidney function compared to other groups.

Accounting for Age in the Definition of Chronic Kidney Disease

Ping Liu et al.

Summary: This population-based cohort study compares the outcomes associated with CKD defined by fixed vs age-adapted eGFR thresholds. The fixed-threshold cohort had lower risks of kidney failure and death, while the age-adapted cohort had higher risks.
