Vibrational spectroscopy analysis of silica and silicate glass networks

Hongshen Liu et al.

Summary: Vibrational spectroscopy is widely used to study the structural aspects of glass networks, but interpretations of spectral features are difficult due to the non-crystalline nature of the glass. Recent advances include theoretical calculations and comparisons with experimental data, as well as suggested empirical relationships for interpreting vibrational spectral features of silica and silicate glasses.

Photothermal Atomic Force Microscopy Coupled with InfraredSpectroscopy (AFM-IR) Analysis of High Extinction CoefficientMaterials: A Case Study with Silica and Silicate Glasses

Yen-Ting Lin et al.

Summary: Photothermal atomic force microscopy coupled with infrared spectroscopy (AFM-IR) is a valuable technique for surface analysis of disordered oxide materials. However, further development and understanding of the underlying principles are needed to interpret AFM-IR spectra. This paper presents theoretical calculations and discusses the differences between AFM-IR spectra and other spectra, as well as the information depth of AFM-IR characterization.

Network structure in alteration layer of boroaluminosilicate glass formed by aqueous corrosion

Huseyin Kaya et al.

Summary: Exogenously-added LiCl accelerates the corrosion rate of boroaluminosilicate glass, while KCl and CsCl slow it down. The presence of added electrolytes affects the proportion of hydrous species generated, but does not significantly alter the Si-O bonding network structure of the alteration layers.

Water adsorption on silica and calcium-boroaluminosilicate glass surfaces-Thickness and hydrogen bonding of water layer

Yen-Ting Lin et al.

Summary: The study investigated the adsorption isotherm of water on silica and Ca-BAS glass surfaces as a function of relative humidity using FTIR spectroscopy. Results showed that differences in water layer thickness and hydrogen bonding interactions between the two surfaces vary with surface chemistry and humidity levels.
