Pathophysiological and Pharmacological Characteristics of KCNJ5 157-159delITE Somatic Mutation in Aldosterone-Producing Adenomas

Kang-Yung Peng et al.

Summary: Mutated KCNJ5 channel plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of aldosterone-producing adenoma, disrupting potassium ion selectivity and increasing autonomous aldosterone production. Immunohistochemical and patch-clamp experiments confirmed the functional properties of the mutation, while macrolide antibiotics were ineffective in interfering with the aberrant electrophysiological properties induced by the mutation.
