Diffusion-mediated surface reactions and stochastic resetting

Paul C. Bressloff

Summary: In this paper, the effects of stochastic resetting on diffusion in Rd\U are investigated, and resetting is applied to diffusion-mediated surface reactions in a probabilistic model. By constructing boundary value problems and implicit equations, the marginal density of particle position and the survival probability with both position resetting and local time resetting are derived. The study shows that solving these equations becomes challenging in the case of non-constant reactivities, while the analysis is considerably simplified when both position and local time are reset.

Diffusion-mediated absorption by partially-reactive targets: Brownian functionals and generalized propagators

Paul C. Bressloff

Summary: This paper introduces a probabilistic framework for diffusion-mediated surface reactions and extends it to cases where the whole interior target domain acts as an absorber. The mean first passage time for a spherical target located at the center of a spherical domain is calculated using the propagator boundary value problem and stopping condition.

Spectral theory of diffusion in partially absorbing media

Paul C. Bressloff

Summary: A probabilistic framework for studying single-particle diffusion in partially absorbing media has been developed using the encounter-based approach. This framework computes the joint probability density for particle position and contact time with a reactive component, and includes methods for Laplace transformation and inverse Laplace transformation. The theory is validated using examples of simple geometries.

Search of stochastically gated targets with diffusive particles under resetting

Gabriel Mercado-Vasquez et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of Poissonian resetting at a constant rate r on the reaction time between a Brownian particle and a stochastically gated target. The optimal resetting rate depends on the target transition rates, where the system can become equivalent to a partially absorbing boundary problem under certain conditions. In cases where the target relaxation rate is much larger than the resetting rate and the inverse diffusion time, the optimal resetting rate can be a non-monotonic function of the target rates.

Search processes with stochastic resetting and partially absorbing targets

Ryan D. Schumm et al.

Summary: The theoretical framework studying search processes with stochastic resetting has been extended to partially absorbing targets. The mean first passage time for absorption depends on absorption rate kappa, resetting rate r, and target geometry. The optimal resetting rate for partially absorbing targets depends on target size and distance between the target and reset point.
