Rare earth (Gd, La) co-doped ZnO nanoflowers for direct sunlight driven photocatalytic activity

Baskaran Palanivel et al.

Summary: In this work, a Gd/La@ZnO nanoflower photocatalyst was successfully synthesized via co-precipitation method and used for the degradation of rhodamine B and tetracycline under direct sunlight irradiation. The introduction of rare earth elements extended the optical absorption wavelength of ZnO from the UV region to the visible-light region. The co-doped ZnO nanoflower showed excellent degradation efficiency and a lower charge recombination efficiency compared to pure ZnO.

Trap assisted visible light luminescent properties of hydrothermally grown Gd doped ZnO nanostructures

Khurshaid Ahmad Malik et al.

Summary: The Gd-doped ZnO nanostructures synthesized through the hydrothermal route exhibit good optical properties, enhanced photoluminescence activity, and can be applied in various fields such as sensors, UV-Lasers, phosphors, LEDs, and luminescent biolabels. The enhancement in luminescent property is attributed to an increase in crystallinity, complex defects, and electron-hole pair recombination rate.

Micro-Plasma Assisted Synthesis of ZnO Nanosheets for the Efficient Removal of Cr6+ from the Aqueous Solution

Pawan Kumar et al.

Summary: A micro-plasma assisted solvothermal synthesis method was used to prepare zinc oxide nanosheets for the removal of Cr6+ ion from aqueous solution. The nanosheets exhibited high-density growth and a typical size range of 145.8-320.25 nm with a surface area of 948 m(2)/g. The optimized conditions resulted in a removal efficiency of 87.1% at pH = 2, with a calculated maximum adsorption capacity of 87.37 mg/g. The adsorption process followed pseudo-first-order kinetics and the nanosheets showed low toxicity against fibroblast cells, making them suitable for wastewater treatment.
