Pigments-Arsenic-based yellows and reds

Elisabetta Gliozzo et al.

Summary: This review provides an update on arsenic-bearing minerals and pigments, aiming to serve as a guide for the study of Cultural Heritage materials. It examines different phases of As-bearing minerals and their light-induced products, as well as the occurrence, trade, use, alteration and degradation of As-sulfides. The paper also discusses analytical techniques commonly used for identifying arsenic-containing pigments and concludes with a good-practice guide and a summary of key concepts for those working in the field of cultural heritage.

High-pressure investigations on the isostructural phase transition and metallization in realgar with diamond anvil cells

Linfei Yang et al.

Summary: Realgar underwent an isostructural phase transition at around 6.3 GPa and metallization at a higher pressure of around 23.5 GPa. The metallization was associated with the closure of bandgap rather than caused by the structural phase transition. Additionally, metallic realgar exhibited relatively low compressibility with specific parameters.
