A polymeric separator membrane with chemoresistance and high Li-ion flux for high-energy-density lithium metal batteries

Jaegeon Ryu et al.

Summary: A rational design for a bicomponent separator is proposed, which regulates the deposition structure of lithium metal in lithium metal batteries by coupling ferroelectric terpolymer-polydopamine. This separator prevents electrolyte dissolution of the terpolymer, improves electrolyte affinity, and ensures the homogeneity of lithium-ion transport through the separator. Stable cycling of lithium metal batteries is achieved using this separator under limited electrolyte conditions.

Controllably regulating ion transport in lithium metal batteries via pore effect of metal-organic framework-based separators

Hongyan Yao et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a method to functionalize traditional commercial polypropylene separators by coating them with Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) in order to regulate ion transport and inhibit the formation of lithium dendrites. The new strategy is controllable and universal, and can be used to prepare separators with outstanding performances by accurately tuning the MOF structure.

A nano-silica/polyacrylonitrile/polyimide composite separator for advanced fast charging lithium-ion batteries

Waqas Ul Arifeen et al.

Summary: Composite separators based on silica particles embedded in polyacrylonitrile and polyimide were fabricated using electspinning technique followed by thermal pressing. The results showed high thermal stability and tensile strength, leading to improved battery safety and performance. Compared to a commercial Celgard separator, the composite separator demonstrated better affinity towards liquid electrolyte, higher porosity, and lower internal resistance, resulting in stable cyclability and superior C-rate capacity, with a high discharge capacity of 147 mAh.g(-1) achieved.

Effect of fibrillated fiber morphology on properties of paper-based separators for lithium-ion battery applications

Yang Wang et al.

Summary: Increasing beating revolutions result in a decrease in the number of coarse fibers and a reduction in the mean fiber diameter of Lyocell fibrillated fiber paper-based separators. The morphology of the fibers has a significant impact on the thickness, pore size, and porosity of the separators, with larger pore size and porosity contributing to better cycle performance at room temperature. However, at lower temperatures, the presence of coarse fibers can lead to local lithium plating and deterioration in cycle performance.

Facile fabrication of EVA cellular material with hydrophobic surface, high solar reflectance and low thermal conductivity via chemical foaming

Fan Yang et al.

Summary: A series of EVA cellular materials with different foaming ratios were fabricated in this study. By increasing the weight content of foaming agent AC, the apparent density of samples decreased while the closed cell size expanded. EVA-AC12 exhibited improved water contact angle, high near infrared reflectance, and low thermal conductivity, showing great potential for self-cleaning passive cooling applications.
