In Situ Growth Mechanism of CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, and I) Quantum Dots in an Amorphous Oxide Matrix

Ruilin Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, the in situ growth mechanism of halide quantum dots (QDs) in an amorphous oxide matrix was elucidated. It was found that the growth mechanism of halide QDs was different from that of traditional glass-ceramics, resembling a halide nanoglass-based phase transition process. The results provide important insights for the development of high-efficiency halide perovskite QD-embedded amorphous materials and optoelectronic devices.

Self-Straining Nanocrystals Strategy: Temperature and Pressure Co-Induced Phase Transitions of CsPbBr3 in Amorphous Matrices

Ruilin Zheng et al.

Summary: This study reports an adjustable self-straining strategy to control the temperature and pressure co-induced phase transitions of nanocrystals (NCs) in amorphous matrices. The phase transitions of CsPbBr3 NCs are clarified, and the high sensitivity response of phase transition temperatures to pressure regulation is discovered. This work provides a better fundamental understanding of the phase transitions of NCs and paves the way toward the development of an in situ method to predict the multiphysics co-induced structural evolution of NCs in optoelectronic devices.

Suppression of temperature quenching in perovskite nanocrystals for efficient and thermally stable light-emitting diodes

Mingming Liu et al.

Summary: Fluoride-treated CsPbBr3 nanocrystals exhibit near unity emission efficiency at temperatures up to 373 K, with constant decay kinetics. The treatment leads to surfaces rich in fluorine with wider energy gaps than the core, suppressing carrier trapping and improving thermal stability. Devices incorporating these nanocrystals show low turn-on voltage and high external quantum efficiency, with nearly 80% efficiency maintained at high temperatures, offering a promising pathway for high-performance light-emitting diodes based on perovskite nanostructures.

Reversible Pb2+/Pb0 and I-/I3- Redox Chemistry Drives the Light-Induced Phase Segregation in All-Inorganic Mixed Halide Perovskites

Lyubov A. Frolova et al.

Summary: Research shows that tunability of optoelectronic properties of lead halide perovskites can be achieved through halide mixing, but mixed halide perovskites are unstable under illumination due to halide phase segregation. Recent studies have found that iodoplumbate is selectively expelled from mixed halide perovskite grains, forming a separate I-rich phase, and proposed a mechanism based on reversible redox chemistry to explain this phenomenon.

Phase segregation in mixed-halide perovskites affects charge-carrier dynamics while preserving mobility

Silvia G. Motti et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of halide segregation on the charge-carrier dynamics and transport properties of mixed halide perovskite films using optical-pump terahertz-probe spectroscopy. Surprisingly, halide segregation has negligible impact on the charge-carrier mobilities, but affects recombination dynamics through charge funnelling. Enhanced lattice anharmonicity in the segregated regions supports ionic migration and contributes to fast charge funnelling into narrow-bandgap domains.

Ultrastable Perovskite Nanocrystals in All-Inorganic Transparent Matrix for High-Speed Underwater Wireless Optical Communication

Mengling Xia et al.

Summary: The key features of lead halide perovskites, including short emission lifetime and excellent luminous efficiency in the green emission region, are well-suited for underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC). However, the poor stability of perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) restricts its application underwater. This study reports extremely stable CsPbBr3 NCs in an all-inorganic amorphous glass matrix, showing high photoluminescence quantum yield and excellent stability towards water, thermal treatment, and intensive laser irradiation. The refraction index can strongly influence the lifetime values of radiative transitions in the perovskite NCs, and the large refraction index of the glass matrix enhances their radiative transition rates. Finally, the first application of perovskite NCs for UWOC shows promising results with high bandwidth and data rates.
