Magnetic anisotropy and ferroelectric-driven magnetic phase transition in monolayer Cr2Ge2Te6

Wen-Rong Liu et al.

Summary: The electronic and magnetic properties of monolayer Cr2Ge2Te6 were explored to find that magnetic shape anisotropy plays a vital role in establishing long-range ferromagnetism, mainly originating from hybridized Te-p(y) and -p(z) orbitals. By creating a heterostructure with ferroelectric Sc2CO2, a spin reorientation and electronic property transition were observed in Cr2Ge2Te6, leading to an increase in Curie temperature to 92.4 K. These findings not only clarify the contradiction in previous studies but also pave the way for nonvolatile magnetic memory devices based on multifunctional ferromagnetic/ferroelectric heterostructures.

Giant Biquadratic Exchange in 2D Magnets and Its Role in Stabilizing Ferromagnetism of NiCl2 Monolayers

J. Y. Ni et al.

Summary: In 2D van der Waals magnets, giant biquadratic exchange interactions play a crucial role in monolayer NiX2 (X = Cl, Br, I), contrary to bilinear spin Hamiltonians. These interactions originate from large hopping between unoccupied and occupied orbitals on neighboring magnetic ions, suggesting the importance of biquadratic exchange interactions in 2D magnets with edge-shared octahedra.

Van der Waals epitaxial growth of air-stable CrSe2 nanosheets with thickness-tunable magnetic order

Bo Li et al.

Summary: The research discovered that CrSe2 nanosheets can be grown on a WSe2 substrate, displaying stable environmental stability and tunable thickness. No significant changes in surface roughness or magnetic properties were observed in these heterostructures after months of exposure in air. Charge transfer from the WSe2 substrate and interlayer coupling within CrSe2 were found to play critical roles in the magnetic order of CrSe2 nanosheets.

Tuning the magnetic properties of Fe3GeTe2 by doping with 3d transition-metals

Shaozheng Zhang et al.

Summary: Doping with alien transition-metal atoms can effectively tune the magnetic properties of Fe3GeTe2, with different effects on the magnetic moment of Fe-I and Fe-II atoms. The observed variations in magnetic moment can be explained by electron transfer of the doped atoms, providing valuable information for the development of Fe3GeTe2-based spin electronic devices.
