Supramolecular Antiparallel β-Sheet Formation by Tetrapeptides Based on Amyloid Sequence

Souvik Misra et al.

Summary: The self-assembly of peptides, particularly those rich in aromatic amino acids, can adopt a beta-sheet structure. However, aliphatic amino acid-containing short peptides can also spontaneously form an antiparallel beta-sheet structure in the solid-state, as demonstrated by the crystal structure of two tetrapeptides in this study. This suggests that non-aromatic short peptides have the potential to mimic the function of native amyloid peptides.

A crystallography-based investigation of weak interactions for drug design against COVID-19†

Nayim Sepay et al.

Summary: The study explores the interactions between proteins and small molecules in inhibiting protein function. By examining 143 X-ray crystal structures of the SARS-CoV-2 M-pro protein with bound small molecules, it sheds light on the essential amino acids involved in ligand binding. The research emphasizes the importance of understanding non-covalent interactions for designing effective inhibitor molecules.
