Ratio of adsorptive abilities for NH3 and NOx determined SCR activity of transition-metal catalyst

Yihuan Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that the oxide-state catalyst has a stronger adsorption capacity for NOx, resulting in a lower adsorption ratio between NH3 and NOx. When the ratio between NH3 and NOx decreased to 0.25 at 100 degrees C, a removal of 18.5% was achieved.

Performance of different pretreatment methods on alleviating reverse osmosis membrane fouling caused by soluble microbial products

Gen-Qiang Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that ferric chloride and granular activated carbon performed well in alleviating RO membrane fouling caused by SMP, effectively reducing the fouling. In addition, decreasing the dissolved organic carbon content and reducing specific fluorescence intensity, molecular weight, and polysaccharide content could help mitigate RO membrane fouling.

Pretreatment for alleviation of RO membrane fouling in dyeing wastewater reclamation

Gen-Qiang Chen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of adsorption and coagulation pretreatment on reverse osmosis (RO) membrane fouling during dyeing wastewater treatment. The results showed that adsorption with granular activated carbon (GAC) could remove most of the dissolved organic matters (DOM) in the wastewater, while coagulants such as polyferric sulfate (PFS) and polyaluminum chloride (PACl) preferred to remove polysaccharides and high-MW compounds with high fouling potential. The pretreatment with GAC and PFS successfully alleviated the fouling potential of the dyeing wastewater.

Dissect the role of particle size through collision-attachment simulations for colloidal fouling of RO/NF membranes

Junxia Liu et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the role of colloidal size on fouling using a collision-attachment approach, highlighting the importance of four competing mechanisms in governing the net effect of particle size on fouling. It shows that larger particles can enhance flux stability when strong foulant-membrane repulsion prevails, but this trend may be reversed for weak foulant-membrane interaction.

Electrochemical degradation of reverse osmosis concentrate (ROC) using the electrodeposited Ti/TiO2-NTs/PbO2 electrode

Fuqiang Wei et al.

Summary: A Ti/TiO2-NTs/PbO2 electrode was successfully fabricated and showed superior electrochemical performance in degrading reverse osmosis concentrate from local printing and dyeing mills. The introduction of TiO2-NTs enhanced electron transport and facilitated the generation of hydroxyl radicals, leading to more effective degradation under weakly alkaline conditions. The electrode retained its COD removal capacity and morphology, with no detection of Pb(II) even after 10 cycles of continuous use.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of ultraviolet (UV) disinfection on reverse osmosis (RO) membrane fouling, revealing that high UV dosage could lead to more severe biofouling due to increased extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) secretion by residual bacteria after disinfection.
