Stable dispersed N-doped carbon quantum dots-decorated 2D Ni-BDC nanocomposites towards the tribological application

Huawen Zhu et al.

Summary: The interfacial compatibility of nanomaterials is crucial for improving the dispersibility and tribological properties in oil. In this study, N-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CDs) were decorated on the surface of 2D Ni-BDC nanosheets using an in-situ solvothermal method, resulting in N-CDs/2D Ni-BDC nanocomposites. The experimental results demonstrated that the addition of N-CDs significantly improved the dispersibility of the nanocomposites in castor oil. Furthermore, the tribological performance of the N-CDs/2D Ni-BDC nanocomposites was investigated under different friction pairs, and the results showed a reduction in friction coefficient and wear rate compared to neat 2D Ni-BDC.

Improving the hydrostability of ZIF-8 membrane by biomolecule towards enhanced nanofiltration performance for dye removal

Ming-yue Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a ZIF-8 nanocomposite membrane with satisfactory hydrostability was prepared by depositing a series of composite ZIF-8 thin film containing DNA molecules on dopamine-modified polysulfone substrates. The DNA-containing ZIF-8 membrane exhibited higher water flux, better water stability, higher rejections for organic dyes and inorganic salt ions, as well as enhanced anti-fouling property, compared with pure ZIF-8 materials. The utilization of biomacromolecules to stabilize ZIF membranes enables potential applications for ZIF membranes in wider water-related fields.

Enhanced removal of hydrophobic endocrine disrupting compounds from wastewater by nanofiltration membranes intercalated with hydrophilic MoS2 nanosheets: Role of surface properties and internal nanochannels

Ruobin Dai et al.

Summary: Introducing MoS2 nanosheets into PA NF membrane enhanced water permeance, EDC rejection, and water/EDC selectivity. The enhanced EDC rejection was due to suppressed hydrophobic interaction and selective effect by MoS2 nanosheets-induced nanochannels. Selective nanochannels played a more important role than hydrophilic surface in impeding the transport of EDCs across the PA layer.

Improvement of thin-film nanocomposite (TFN) membrane performance by CAU-1 with low charge and small size

Shujuan Xiao et al.

Summary: The study found that CAU-1 particles with different average sizes have significant influence on the performance of nanocomposite membranes, with higher positive charge leading to the formation of network separation layer structure. High charge and large particle size of CAU-1 particles can increase membrane flux but may cause defects and reduce retention, while composite membrane with low charge and small particle size of CAU-1 demonstrates better separation performance compared to thin-film composite membrane, with a 40% increase in flux and unchanged retention rate.
