Piezoelectric performance of Zr-modified lead-free BiFeO3-BaTiO3 ceramics

Muhammad Habib et al.

Summary: The structural evolution and electrical properties of 0.67Bi(1.03)FeO3-0.33BaTi(1-x)Zr(x)O(3) piezoelectric ceramics were studied, showing enhanced piezoelectric and ferroelectric responses near the morphotropic phase boundary. The dynamic piezoelectric coefficient gradually increased with temperature, while a large electrostrictive coefficient was obtained in a specific temperature range. The relationship between crystalline structure and functional properties suggests potential for future research into lead-free piezoelectric ceramics.

Atomic-resolution electron microscopy of nanoscale local structure in lead-based relaxor ferroelectrics

Abinash Kumar et al.

Summary: Scanning transmission electron microscopy is used to quantify the structural complexity of relaxor ferroelectric systems, revealing the spatial correlation between nanoscale heterogeneities and local polarization. Three main contributions related to Ti content include chemical order, oxygen octahedral tilt, and oxygen octahedral distortion, which disrupt long-range polarization and lead to nanoscale domain formation and the relaxor response. Nanoscale regions of monoclinic-like distortion directly correlate with Ti content and electromechanical performance, validating models needed for the development of the next generation of relaxor ferroelectrics.

Preparation of BaTiO3@NiO core-shell nanoparticles with antiferroelectric-like characteristic and high energy storage capability

Hongye Wang et al.

Summary: A core-shell structural nanoparticles preparative technique was applied to produce BaTiO3@NiO ceramics with excellent energy storage performance. The BaTiO3@NiO ceramics exhibit high-densification microstructures with fine-crystalline and uniform distribution, excellent energy storage density, fast discharge features, superior thermal stability, and prominent cyclic stability. The ceramics also display antiferroelectric-like feature due to the synergistic effect of NiO and BaTiO3, making them a prospective material for energy storage application.
