Edge magnetization and spin-valley-caloritronics in germanene and stanene nanoribbons

Fereshte Ildarabadi et al.

Summary: The study proposes a concept to generate the spin-valley Seebeck effect using the Kane-Mele-Hubbard model and electric field in zigzag nanoribbons, with a focus on stanene and germanene nanoribbons. Results show that edge magnetization can generate controllable spin- and valley-polarized current by tuning the electric field in silicene-like materials with large spin-orbit interaction. Additionally, a pure valley current is observed in a wide range of temperatures, and high spin-valley Seebeck coefficients can be obtained by controlling the chemical potential.

Effective Hamiltonian for silicene under arbitrary strain from multi-orbital basis

Summary: The study introduces the tight-binding Hamiltonian for strained silicene and its application in spin accumulation. The breaking of lattice symmetry reveals additional spin-orbit interaction terms, resulting in out-of-plane spin accumulation that can be utilized for spin torque switching.

Spin-thermoelectric transport in nonuniform strained zigzag graphene nanoribbons

Fereshte Ildarabadi et al.

Summary: Researchers found that applying nonuniform strain in zigzag graphene nanoribbons can generate spin-thermoelectric effects, leading to a tunable spin-dependent band gap, pure spin current, and a giant spin Seebeck coefficient. This provides a practical pathway for improved design in spin-thermoelectric applications through strain engineering.

Fully spin-valley-polarized current induced by electric field in zigzag stanene and germanene nanoribbons

Fereshte Ildarabadi et al.

Summary: Theoretical investigation in stanene and germanene nanoribbons revealed that applying an electric field can create spin-valley currents by exploiting edge magnetism, leading to fully spin-valley-polarized currents even at room temperature. These structures with rich and tunable spin and valley degrees of freedom are ideal candidates for spin-valley applications.
