MnFe2O4/alginate magnetic beads were prepared and characterized for use in cancer drug delivery. The encapsulation and delivery of 5-Fluorouracil in the magnetic beads were studied, and different models were used to determine the delivery profiles.
MnFe2O4/alginate magnetic beads was prepared, by drop-by-drop process, characterized and evaluated for use in cancer drug (5-Fluorouracil) delivery. In the literature, there are many studies in controlled drug systems where different magnetic composites, which are not used in this study, are used as carriers and different drugs are loaded. When they were evaluated, it was seen that Fe3O4 was generally preferred as the magnetic center. In this sense, the MnFe2O4 magnetic particles used in this study are thought to contribute to the literature. So, the preparation parameters of MnFe2O4/alginate magnetic beads were determined, TGA and SEM were used for the characterization of magnetic beads and also swelling profile of the magnetic beads were defined. 5-Fluorouracil, a model cancer drug, was encapsulated at different amounts in magnetic beads. Delivery studies were performed at pH 7.4, pH 6.8 and pH 1.2 and delivery profiles was determined by using Korsmeyer-Peppas, Higuchi, first-order and zero-order models.
