Ultrafast nonadiabatic mechanism of plant sunscreens biflavonoids with two excited-state intramolecular proton transfer structures

Mengqi Wang et al.

Summary: Safety and environmental compatibility of commercial sunscreens are becoming a concern. Biflavonoids have sunscreen properties and can be adjusted to enhance UV protection. Amentoflavone (AME) performs better than current commercial sunscreens.

New insights into ESIPT mechanism of three sunscreen compounds in solution: A combined experimental and theoretical study

Feixiang Ji et al.

Summary: The excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) mechanism of three flavonoid sunscreen compounds was studied, showing that the ESIPT process can easily occur without energy barriers in these compounds. Light stability tests confirmed the potential of these three compounds as sunscreens.

Excited state trans-cis photoisomerization via non-adiabatic dynamics of novel UVB protective sunscreens

Feixiang Ji et al.

Summary: The newly synthesized octyl urocanate compounds (U1 and U2) demonstrated significant UVB absorption and excellent light stability, with their UV protection mechanism explained through Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1HNMR) and Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (TDDFT) calculation methods. The molecules can quickly consume absorbed energy through non-radiative photoisomerization process, suggesting U1 and U2 as promising sunscreen molecules for UVB protection.

Proton-Coupled Electron Transfer in the Aqueous Nanochannels of Lyotropic Liquid Crystals: Interplay of H-Bonding and Polarity Effects

Konoya Das et al.

Summary: In this study, the polarity and hydrogen bonding effects of LLC water molecules were investigated using a single probe, revealing the dominant influence of strong hydrogen-bonded solute-solvent complexes on ESIPT dynamics. Enhanced sampling techniques based on classical MD simulations further elucidated the effects of hydrogen bonding on ESIPT activation barriers. The experimentally observed slow ESIPT dynamics inside the LLCs were substantiated by the presence of an extended hydrogen-bonded water wire.

Nonadiabatic Dynamics Mechanism of Chalcone Analogue Sunscreen FPPO-HBr: Excited State Intramolecular Proton Transfer Followed by Conformation Twisting

Zibo Wu et al.

Summary: A novel sunscreen molecule FPPO-HBr was reported in this study, which addressed the issues of traditional sunscreen molecules by utilizing excited-state intramolecular proton transfer pathway. The newly synthesized FPPO-HBr showed excellent photostability and was found to be resistant to trans-cis photoisomerization.
