Development of sensitive and selective UPLC-MS/MS method for the quantification of vitamin D-2 (ergocalciferol) and its demonstration in Agaricus bisporus

Anumeha Vats et al.

Summary: An analytical method using UPLC-MS/MS was developed and validated for quantifying vitamin D-2, which is essential for human nutrition and bone health. Vitamin D-2 enrichment in mushrooms, specifically Agaricus bisporus, was found to be crucial in meeting daily requirements. The study also demonstrated a significant increase in Vitamin D-2 concentration in mushrooms by exposing them to UVC light for 1 minute at a distance of 0.35 meters.

Changes in Lactate Production, Lactate Dehydrogenase Genes Expression and DNA Methylation in Response to Tamoxifen Resistance Development in MCF-7 Cell Line

Lama Hamadneh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in tamoxifen resistance development, finding an upregulation of LDHB gene expression and an associated increase in lactate concentration. This suggests a potential link between LDH gene expression and tamoxifen resistance in breast cancer.

Pharmacological Inhibition of MCT4 Reduces 4-Hydroxytamoxifen Sensitivity by Increasing HIF-1α Protein Expression in ER-Positive MCF-7 Breast Cancer Cells

Takanobu Nadai et al.

Summary: In cancer cells, high glycolysis rates result in excess lactate production due to increased energy demands. Monocarboxylate transporters, particularly MCT1 and MCT4, play a crucial role in maintaining pH balance through lactate transport. Inhibiting MCTs may be a promising therapeutic target for adjuvant breast cancer treatment, and targeting HIF-1 alpha could enhance the sensitivity of 4-OHT in breast cancer cells.

Monitoring of circulating amino acids in patients with pancreatic cancer and cancer cachexia using capillary electrophoresis and contactless conductivity detection

Petr Tuma et al.

Summary: In this study, capillary electrophoresis with contactless conductivity detection was used to determine branched chain amino acids, alanine and glutamine in human plasma. Patients with pancreatic cancer and cancer cachexia syndrome were found to have lower levels of circulating BCAAs and glutamine, as well as the loss of their insulin-dependent suppression.
