The Disassembly Map: A new method to enhance design for product repairability

Francesco De Fazio et al.

Summary: Designers and engineers need better tools and methods to create highly repairable products. The 'Disassembly Map' method is developed to visually map the disassembly of a product, showing different routes towards target components, in order to enhance repairability. This method assesses the ease of disassembly based on four main design parameters and is aligned with the most recent research and standards on product repairability. Insights gathered from this method can be used in an iterative product development process to enhance product repairability.

Barriers, enablers and market governance: A review of the policy landscape for repair of consumer electronics in the EU and the U.S

Sahra Svensson-Hoglund et al.

Summary: This article examines the current policy landscape for repair services, highlighting legal and market barriers to stakeholder participation in repair activities and identifying the stakeholders affected. It also reviews the fundamental obstacles to repair supply and demand, as well as proposing policy solutions to address these barriers and increase repair activities. The comparative assessment of the EU and the U.S. in terms of repair market governance structure is discussed, with emphasis on the concept of a Repair Society Framework as a market transformation tool.

Advances in Spare Parts Classification and Forecasting for Inventory Control: A Literature Review

Swapnil Bhalla et al.

Summary: Ensuring availability of spare parts is crucial for OEMs to support after-sales maintenance and repair services, but current research has not effectively addressed the shortcomings of spare parts management systems. Most studies focus on the perspective of asset or equipment owners, with fewer focusing on manufacturers or suppliers, particularly OEMs. Majority of recent case studies are from aviation, domestic appliance, and automotive industries.
