Ultrasound-assisted dual-cloud point extraction with high-performance liquid chromatography-hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry for mercury speciation analysis in environmental water and soil samples

Meiyi Xie et al.

Summary: The method combines ultrasound-assisted dual-cloud point extraction with high-performance liquid chromatography with hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry to simultaneously preconcentrate and determine mercury species in water and soil samples. The detection process, including two extraction steps, takes only 6 minutes with a wide linear range and low detection limits for inorganic mercury and methylmercury. It is suitable for the determination of trace mercury in environmental samples with good recoveries.

Analytical study on the primary and secondary organic carbon and elemental carbon in the particulate matter at the high-altitude Monte Curcio GAW station, Italy

Sacha Moretti et al.

Summary: This study thoroughly investigates the trends of organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) concentrations in particulate matter samples collected at the Monte Curcio Observatory in southern Italy. The results show a clear seasonal variability in OC and EC concentrations, with higher levels during the warm period. The study also reveals that most of the carbonaceous aerosol is transported by long-range air masses.

Determination of toxic heavy metals in fish samples using dispersive micro solid phase extraction combined with inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy

Elahe Bozorgzadeh et al.

Summary: This study presented a method for preconcentration of trace Pb, Cd, Hg, Co, and Ni ions in fish samples using pectin coated magnetic graphene oxide. The accuracy of the method was verified using certified reference materials, and toxic heavy metals concentrations were successfully determined in 11 different fish samples. By optimizing parameters, accurate concentrations of toxic heavy metals in various fish samples can be determined.

Highly selective and sensitive determination of mercury ions by total-reflection X-ray fluorescence spectrometry

Marcin Musielak et al.

Summary: This study presents a fast and low-cost method for highly selective determination of ultratrace Hg(II) ions using CNT-TSC. Through DMSPE and TXRF analysis, the method achieves extremely low detection limits and efficient separation. The method also shows potential for effective removal of Hg(II) ions from aqueous solutions.

A field intercomparison of three passive air samplers for gaseous mercury in ambient air

Attilio Naccarato et al.

Summary: Passive air samplers (PASs) are promising for monitoring atmospheric mercury worldwide. A comparative evaluation of three PASs in Italy and Canada showed that the MerPAS (R) performed the best in terms of sensitivity, precision, and accuracy. The radial configuration of the MerPAS (R) contributed to its lower blank levels and higher accuracy compared to the other PASs.
