Characterization of heavy metals and oil components in the products of oily sludge after hydrothermal treatment

Yihang Duan et al.

Summary: The study revealed that siloxane and heavy oil components remain in the solid residue during hydrothermal treatment and mechanical compression, while light oils and oils with hydrophilic groups are transferred to hydrothermal fluids. Additionally, the content of heavy metals in the solid residue increased at a temperature of 240 degrees Celsius and a residence time of 60 minutes. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy results showed an increase in hydroxyl groups, which benefits the adsorption of heavy metals and other pollutants.

Oxidative cracking of three to five-member ring polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in subcritical and supercritical water

Ahmad Rafizan Mohamad Daud et al.

Summary: In this study, partial oxidation of PAH to useful chemicals was achieved by limiting the oxidant supply. PAH conversions above 90% were achieved along a fast heating ramp, with initial oxidation predominantly taking place in inner rings, weakening the aromatic structure and increasing cracking reactivity. The oxidation-cracking pathway became dominant in the SCW region, producing oxygenated compounds with fewer aromatic rings. competing reactions leading to polymerization were favored in the subcritical water region, and PAH reactivity followed the order anthracene > benzo[a]pyrene > pyrene.

Kinetic modeling of carbon monoxide oxidation and water gas shift reaction in supercritical water

Guoxing Li et al.

Summary: A validated chemical kinetic model was expanded to describe carbon monoxide oxidation and water gas shift reaction in supercritical water, with good reproduction of experimental data for CO oxidation. The observed water gas shift reaction under SCW conditions was largely due to catalytic effects on the reactor surface, exceeding model predictions. Pressure corrections and inclusion of a HOCHO subset had negligible influence on modeling results. Sensitivity analysis identified key elementary reactions in the system.
