Development and characterization of zein-based active packaging films containing catechin loaded β-cyclodextrin metal-organic frameworks

Longwei Jiang et al.

Summary: In this study, nano-sized beta-cyclodextrin-metal-organic frameworks loaded with catechin were successfully synthesized and incorporated into zein films. The addition of catechin-loaded beta-cyclodextrin-metal-organic frameworks significantly improved the physicochemical, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties of the zein films. Therefore, these composite films have great potential as active packaging materials to maintain food quality.

First report on the chemical composition of leaf essential oil of Myrciaria pilosa Sobral & Couto and its antimicrobial and antivirulence activities against Staphylococcus aureus

Wendeo Kennedy Costa et al.

Summary: This paper reports on the chemical composition and antimicrobial and antivirulence activities of essential oil extracted from the leaves of Myrciaria pilosa. The oil showed strong antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus strains and reduced their virulence. These findings suggest that the essential oil of M. pilosa has potential as an antimicrobial drug.

Evaluation of the gastrointestinal anti-motility effect of Anacardium occidentale stem bark extract: A mechanistic study of antidiarrheal activity

Blessing O. Omolaso et al.

Summary: This study investigated the antidiarrheal activity of Anacardium occidentale stem bark extract, revealing that the inhibition of the muscarinic pathway plays a key role in its antimotility effect. Docking studies indicated that octadecanoic acid 2-(2-hydroxylethoxy) ethyl ester exhibited the highest binding affinity to the muscarinic acetylcholine receptor M3.
