A willow UDP-glycosyltransferase involved in salicinoid biosynthesis

The discovery of a new salicinoid glycosyltransferase in this study sheds light on the glucosylation of ortho-substituted phenols, suggesting its role as an early intermediate in the biosynthesis of salicortin and related metabolites. Confirmation of the UDP-glycosyltransferase's function was achieved through metabolomic analysis of transgenic plants with knockdown of the poplar orthologue.
