In vivo anti-malarial activity of the hydroalcoholic extract of rhizomes of Kniphofia foliosa and its constituents

Yonatan Alebachew et al.

Summary: Kniphofia foliosa, an endemic plant in the Ethiopian highlands, was traditionally used for the treatment of malaria. Two compounds, knipholone and dianellin, isolated from its rhizomes showed significant anti-malarial activity, with knipholone demonstrating a strong binding affinity to Plasmodium falciparum l-lactate dehydrogenase target.

Antimicrobial activity of medicinal plants used for urinary tract infections in pastoralist community in Ethiopia

Eshetu Gadisa et al.

Summary: Medicinal plants have been traditionally used in pastoralist communities for primary health care due to their extensive therapeutic bioactive compounds. This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of six medicinal plants against drug-resistant bacteria causing urinary tract infections. The results showed significant antibacterial and antifungal properties in the tested extracts, suggesting their potential as sources for new antibiotics in the future.
