Improving cadmium accumulation by Solanum nigrum L. via regulating rhizobacterial community and metabolic function with phosphate-solubilizing bacteria colonization

Tao He et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of Acinetobacter pittii (AP) and Escherichia coli (EC) on Cd mobilization in rhizosphere and accumulation in Solanum nigrum L. were evaluated. Results showed that AP or EC significantly promoted plant growth and increased Cd accumulation in S. nigrum L. AP exhibited higher efficiency colonization, leading to more organic acids production and Cd accumulation. Inoculated strains enriched microbial taxa related to plant growth promotion and Cd mobilization in the rhizosphere soil.

Joint effects of bacterium and biochar in remediation of antibiotic-heavy metal contaminated soil and responses of resistance gene and microbial community

Xiaorong Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel material combining waste fungus chaff-based biochar (WFCB) and Herbaspirillum huttiense (HHS1) was established to immobilize copper and zinc and degrade oxytetracycline and enrofloxacin in soils containing both veterinary antibiotics and heavy metals. The combined material showed high immobilization of copper and zinc and significant removal of oxytetracycline and enrofloxacin. In addition, the material reduced the abundance of certain resistance genes and altered the potential hosts of antibiotic resistance genes.

Long-Term Manure Application Changes Bacterial Communities in Rice Rhizosphere and Arsenic Speciation in Rice Grains

Xianjin Tang et al.

Summary: Long-term manure application in rice paddy fields can increase the soluble forms of arsenic in soil, leading to higher accumulation of arsenite in rice grains and roots. Additionally, manure application affects the microbial community structure and functional genes in the soil, potentially influencing arsenic availability and speciation.

Novel agricultural waste-based materials decrease the uptake and accumulation of cadmium by rice (Oryza sativa L.) in contaminated paddy soils

Guofei Liu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of low-cost sugarcane bagasse and two modified sugarcane bagasse materials on the bioavailability of Cd in soil and Cd accumulations in rice. The organic amendments significantly decreased Cd accumulation in plants by limiting its mobilization in soil. These amendments reduced Cd bioavailability by transforming to stable fractions throughout the growth stage.

Interactions between pyrene and heavy metals and their fates in a soil-maize (Zea mays L.) system: Perspectives from the root physiological functions and rhizosphere microbial community

Yuhui Wang et al.

Summary: The co-occurrence of PAHs and heavy metals in agricultural soils can change the physiological functions of plant roots and the rhizosphere microbial community, affecting the fate of contaminants. Low-level co-contamination may enhance plant uptake and biodegradation, while higher concentrations of contaminants may have the opposite effect. This research highlights the importance of understanding the interactions between contaminants for the development of safe crops and phytoremediation technologies.

Bacterial community and PAH-degrading genes in paddy soil and rice grain from PAH-contaminated area

Chao Lu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the interactive relationships among PAHs, PDGs, and bacterial communities in the rhizosphere soil and rice grain in PAH-contaminated paddy soil. It was found that PAHs played a critical role in shifting community composition in both soil and rice grain, while the abundance and diversity of PDB varied between the two environments. Additionally, different keystone species were identified in the soil and rice grain, with Pseudomonas and Sphingomonas being highlighted as important bacteria associated with PAH degradation in rice grain.
