A heterogeneous photocatalytic sulfate radical-based oxidation process for efficient degradation of 4-chlorophenol using TiO2 anchored on Fe oxides@carbon

Ali Akbar Babaei et al.

Summary: A photocatalytic sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation process using persulfate (PS) catalyzing UV light and heterogeneous catalyst was studied for degrading 4-chlorophenol. By anchoring ferroferric oxide nanoparticles on activated carbon (FOC) as a supporter of TiO2 nanoparticles, a recoverable photocatalyst (FOCT) was fabricated. The system demonstrated excellent elimination efficiency in coupling with UV irradiation and PS, with high PCP decontamination rate and good reusability. The main reactive species in the system were identified as SO4 center dot - and HO center dot radicals.

Comparative investigation of acetaminophen degradation in aqueous solution by UV/Chlorine and UV/H2O2 processes: Kinetics and toxicity assessment, process feasibility and products identification

Farshid Ghanbari et al.

Summary: The degradation of acetaminophen was comparatively studied using UV/chlorine and UV/H2O2 systems. The primary oxidizing species in ACM removal were hydroxyl radicals in the UV/H2O2 process, while reactive chlorine species played a pivotal role in the UV/chlorine process. The use of higher amounts of oxidants led to a significant increase in ACM degradation rate in both processes within 25 minutes.

Photocatalytic oxidation of tetracycline by magnetic carbon-supported TiO2 nanoparticles catalyzed peroxydisulfate: Performance, synergy and reaction mechanism studies

Seydeh Sakineh Rezaei et al.

Summary: The study synthesized TiO2 decorated ferroferric oxides coupled with activated carbon (TFOC) as a magnetic heterogeneous catalyst for degrading tetracycline (TC) using UV light and peroxydisulfate (PS) activation. The TFOC material showed enhanced photocatalytic activity towards TC degradation under UV light, demonstrating its potential for efficient treatment.

Transformation of acetaminophen in solution containing both peroxymonosulfate and chlorine: Performance, mechanism, and disinfection by-product formation

Jiaqi Ding et al.

Summary: This study investigates the synergistic effect of PMS and chlorine on the degradation of micro-organic pollutants, finding that efficient ACT removal is achieved through direct catalytic chlorination by PMS at neutral conditions. The kinetic study demonstrates that ACT oxidation by PMS/chlorine follows a second order reaction, with peak rate constants at alkaline conditions. The presence of chloride enhances ACT removal, while ammonium and humic acid significantly retard ACT degradation.
