Tip enrichment surface-enhanced Raman scattering based on the partial Leidenfrost phenomenon for the ultrasensitive nanosensors

Ruiyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: A robust and practical molecular enrichment strategy has been developed, which effectively confines analyte molecules and gold nanoparticles in a small-sized sensitive region on a needle tip. This strategy utilizes the Leidenfrost phenomenon and capillary force, enabling high sensitivity and specificity in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection.

Improve optical properties by modifying Ag nanoparticles on a razor clam SERS substrate

Liting Guo et al.

Summary: Irregular substrates are typically unsuitable for enhancing surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) due to their poor uniformity, enhancement performance, and polarization characteristics. However, by intentionally utilizing the messy and irregular structures of a natural biological razor clam, this study successfully improved SERS performance through the use of treated silver nanoparticles to create relatively uniform structures. This resulted in better reproducibility, polarization independence, and higher SERS intensity, with the potential for ultrasensitive detection of thiram and applications in high-sensitivity biosensors.

Local hot charge density regulation: Vibration-free pyroelectric nanogenerator for effectively enhancing catalysis and in-situ surface enhanced Raman scattering monitoring

Chonghui Li et al.

Summary: The study introduces a pyroelectric nanogenerator designed for in-situ monitoring of chemical reactions by absorbing optical energy as a SERS substrate. By coupling pyroelectric and plasmonic effects, the electric field can effectively tune the charge density and enhance the SERS signals to efficiently drive catalytic processes, promoting energy conservation and environmental protection.

Broadband SERS Enhancement by DNA Origami Assembled Bimetallic Nanoantennas with Label-Free Single Protein Sensing

Swati Tanwar et al.

Summary: Engineering hotspots in surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) by precisely controlling the assembly of plasmonic nanostructures can enhance the potential of SERS for single molecule detection. Plasmonic dimer nanoantennas with tunable gaps showed significant enhancements for single dye molecules, and were able to detect a single thrombin protein molecule in a 10 nm wide nanogap. These engineered nanoantennas have the potential to serve as a broadband SERS enhancer for specific detection of biological molecules with single-molecule sensitivity.

From Dilute to Multiple Layers: Bottom-Up Self-Assembly of Rough Gold Nanorods as SERS Platform for Quantitative Detection of Thiram in Soil

Xinxin Li et al.

Summary: The density of nanoparticles on substrates plays a crucial role in determining the performance of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). Increasing the nanoparticle density can significantly enhance the SERS intensity, but saturation occurs at a certain point. This study demonstrates that rough gold nanorods exhibit higher SERS activity compared to smooth gold nanorods, suggesting the potential for designing highly efficient SERS substrates based on nanoparticle density.

Mechanically Tunable Lattice-Plasmon Resonances by Templated Self-Assembled Superlattices for Multi-Wavelength Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

Mathias Charconnet et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the fabrication of superlattices by templated self-assembly of gold nanoparticles on a flexible support, with tunable lattice-plasmon resonances by means of macroscopic strain. It shows that the highest SERS performance is achieved by matching the lattice plasmon mode to the excitation wavelength, by post-assembly fine-tuning of long-range structural parameters. Both asymmetric and symmetric lattice deformations can be used to adapt a single lattice structure to both red-shifted and blue-shifted excitation lines.
