Reduced Sensitivity to Thyroid Hormone Is Associated with Diabetes and Hypertension

Ladan Mehran et al.

Summary: Recently, reduced sensitivity to thyroid hormone has become more common in the general population and is thought to be associated with metabolic parameters. This study found that TFQI, a new index for thyroid hormone resistance, is significantly associated with high blood pressure and diabetes in euthyroid subjects. However, caution is needed when interpreting the results for diabetes, and further studies are necessary.

Higher serum homocysteine and lower thyroid hormone levels in pregnant women are associated with neural tube defects

Yan-Hong Gu et al.

Summary: The study identified that abnormal maternal metabolism of homocysteine and thyroid hormones is associated with an increased risk of neural tube defects in fetuses. Additionally, biological interaction between the two pathways was demonstrated through a cell model.

Irisin as a Potential Biomarker Associated with Myocardial Injuries in Patients with Severe Hypothyroidism

Zhi Yao et al.

Summary: The study suggests that serum Irisin may serve as a promising biomarker for early detection of myocardial injuries in patients with severe hypothyroidism, with significant negative correlation found between Irisin concentrations and native myocardial T1 values after adjusting for confounding factors.

The Role of the Transsulfuration Pathway in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Mikkel Parsberg Werge et al.

Summary: The prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasing globally, possibly related to obesity and metabolic syndrome. The transsulfuration pathway (TSP) plays a vital role in maintaining sulfur balance and optimal cellular function. While a causative link between TSP and NAFLD has not been established, dysfunctions in TSP and related pathways have been reported in NAFLD and liver cirrhosis, suggesting a need for further investigation.
