Assessing the impact of land conversion and management measures on the net primary productivity in the Bailong River Basin, in China

Yanyan Zhou et al.

Summary: The analysis of land use/cover change from 2000 to 2019 in the Bai Long River Basin in China showed a continuous increase in vegetation net primary productivity (NPP). The decrease in cultivated land area was mainly attributed to conversion to forest and grassland. With the implementation of ecological projects, human activities played a major positive role in the increase of NPP.

Distribution and characteristics of large landslides in a fault zone: A case study of the NE Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Tianjun Qi et al.

Summary: The study reveals a close relationship between the fault zone and large landslides in the Bailong River Basin on the northeastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Almost all landslides with an area greater than 1 square kilometer are distributed on faults, with the strike of the faults constraining the direction of landslide movement. Additionally, the asymmetrical arc-shaped cross sections of the landslides reflect significant geomorphic differences between the north and south sides of the landslides.

A critical assessment of provincial-level variation in agricultural GHG emissions in China

Jinyu Han et al.

Summary: China is a world leader in agriculture production, but faces challenges in greenhouse gas emissions. Policies for reducing agricultural emissions need to be province-specific. Different factors have varying effects on greenhouse gas emissions.

Integrating ecosystem services and landscape ecological risk into adaptive management: Insights from a western mountain-basin area, China

Jie Gong et al.

Summary: The study found clear spatial differences in both ESs and LER levels in the Bailongjiang watershed, with cropland food production service continuously increasing, and carbon storage, water yield, and biodiversity index first decreasing and then increasing. Regional ecological zoning based on overlay analysis of ESs with LER is effective for providing interactive spatial knowledge for adaptive landscape management. The integrative approach on linking landscape ecological risk with ecosystem services is a comprehensive and helpful methodology for both regional risk reduction and ecosystem services enhancement at landscape scale.

Modeling the Spatial Distribution of Debris Flows and Analysis of the Controlling Factors: A Machine Learning Approach

Yan Zhao et al.

Summary: The study in the Bailong River Basin in central China revealed that lithology is the most important factor controlling debris flows, followed by landslide density and factors affecting slope stability, with the average annual frequency of daily rainfall > 20 mm being the most important triggering factor. Forest area and vegetation cover are also important controlling factors and should be considered as an important component of mitigation measures.

Effects of urban expansion on ecosystem health in Southwest China from a multi-perspective analysis

Weijie Li et al.

Summary: The study quantified the relationship between urban expansion and ecosystem health, finding that increased intensity of expansion and change in growth mode lead to significant decline in ecosystem health. There was a significant negative correlation between urban size and ecosystem health, and the impact of complex urban form varied for different types of cities.

Ecosystem health assessment based on ecological integrity and ecosystem services demand in the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, China

Zhenzhen Pan et al.

Summary: This study proposed an improved method for ecosystem health assessment, taking into account ecological integrity and ecosystem services demand, including indicators such as ES supply-demand ratio. The results indicated that the ES supply-demand ratio objectively measures the status of ecosystem services, with urbanization showing a significant negative correlation with the ecosystem health index.
