Renewable energy technology transition among small-and-medium scale firms in Ghana

Dennis Asante et al.

Summary: Renewable energy transition has gained popularity due to rapid climate change and energy volatility. Various policy mechanisms have been instituted by national governments and global stakeholders to facilitate cleaner energy transitions. However, research findings indicate that mere supportive policies may not be sufficient in the transition process. This study integrates intuitions from different academic traditions to investigate entrepreneurs' solar energy adoption in Ghana, and finds that pro-environmental norms have a relatively stronger association with solar adoption. The integration of hypotheses from different research traditions offers valuable insights for both researchers and policymakers in the fight against climate change.

Determinants of household choice of cooking energy and the effect of clean cooking energy consumption on household members' health status: The case of rural Ghana

Martinson Ankrah Twumasi et al.

Summary: This study examines the determinants of cooking energy choice among households and explores the impact of clean cooking energy consumption on rural household members' health status in Ghana. The findings suggest that factors such as household education, access to the Internet, off-farm work, non-fixed assets and credit, and urban residence of household members influence the choice of cooking energy. Clean cooking energy consumption can increase the proportion of healthy household members, with a more pronounced effect on female members.

Financial Literacy and Alcohol Drinking Behavior: Evidence from Japan

Pongpat Putthinun et al.

Summary: Although financial literacy is not significantly associated with alcohol consumption behavior among Japanese people, our study provides evidence that males, middle-aged individuals, those with children, higher household income, smokers, and those who place more importance on the future are more likely to be daily drinkers. The prevailing social belief that alcohol consumption is not entirely negative from a health perspective and can be beneficial for socialization overrides people's rationality, influencing their alcohol consumption decisions.

Summary: This study assesses the impact of the 2015 stock market crash on household finances, finding that households holding risky assets experienced significant decreases in financial income, with financial literacy and investment experience not helping to reduce losses. In terms of consumption, households with different risk attitudes and financial literacy displayed significant differences in their post-crash consumption decisions. The study estimates that the crash caused residents' consumption in 2016 to decrease by 87.53 billion RMB, accounting for 0.30% of total resident consumption.
