N-Glycosylation can selectively block or foster different receptor-ligand binding modes

Joni Vuorio et al.

Summary: This study reveals that CD44 receptor has multiple distinct binding sites for hyaluronan, which are modulated by N-glycosylation. Non-glycosylated CD44 prefers a canonical sub-micromolar binding site, while glycosylated CD44 binds hyaluronan through a different micromolar binding site. The findings demonstrate how glycosylation can alter receptor affinity and emphasize the importance of considering glycosylation in protein function and structure determination.

NMR analysis and molecular dynamics conformation of ?-1,6-linear and ?-1,3-branched isomaltose oligomers as mimetics of ?-1,6-linked dextran

Amelia Watson et al.

Summary: The conformational preferences of isomalto-oligosaccharides were investigated using NMR and MD simulations, revealing a right-handed helical structure and a more compact structure in specific branched chains. These findings offer insights into the conformational preferences of isomalto-oligosaccharides and provide potential assistance for designing drug delivery systems or targeting the degradation of capsular polysaccharides in multi-drug resistant bacteria.
