This study demonstrates the formation of double quantum dots in CeCO3OH materials, which improves the performance of the catalyst and achieves a higher N-2 photofixation rate.
The moderate N-2 photofixation catalyzed by CeO2-based materials has been attracted much attention. Herein, double quantum dots of carbon and Co(OH)(2) doped layer structure CeCO3OH are demonstrated firstly, in which double quantum dots can provide much more reaction active sites and improve the energy band structures. The double quantum dots decorated catalyst represents the better performances for the N-2 fixation than the single quantum dots. NH3 fixation rate of the co-doped catalyst can reach above 1.1 mmol.g(cal)(-1).h(-1) and 0.65 mmol.g(cal)(-1).h(-1) with full spectrum and visible light irradiation, respectively. The apparent quantum efficiency at 380 nm has achieved to about 1%. This research affords a fabrication strategy to develop noble metal-free photocatalysts by introducing the composite quantum dots on the samples. (C) 2022 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
