Summary: The study found that for overweight patients undergoing radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer, GLIM-defined malnutrition alone has limited predictive value for postoperative complications and/or survival. However, adding low gait speed or muscle quality to GLIM-defined malnutrition significantly improved the predictive power and remained significant in multivariate analysis. Incorporating gait speed, especially, into nutritional assessment protocols could enhance predictive value for postoperative outcomes in these patients.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the correlation between GLIM-defined malnutrition and body composition/functional parameters in elderly gastric cancer patients undergoing radical gastrectomy, as well as the predictive value of GLIM-defined malnutrition for postoperative outcomes. Results showed that GLIM-defined malnutrition was independently associated with overall survival and disease-free survival, providing a better predictive factor for survival in elderly gastric cancer patients.

The impact of the preoperative hand grip strength on the long-term outcomes after gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer

Summary: The study found that gastric cancer patients with low pre-operative hand grip strength had worse overall survival and higher risk of other causes of death after gastrectomy, but no significant difference in cancer-specific survival and disease-free survival. Low hand grip strength and open surgery were identified as significant independent prognostic factors.

GLIM vs ESPEN criteria for the diagnosis of early malnutrition in oncological outpatients

Relationship between GLIM criteria and disease-specific symptoms and its impact on 5-year survival of esophageal cancer patients

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the value of muscle mass reduction (MMR) in the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) framework among ambulatory cancer patients, and found that including MMR in the GLIM criteria can improve its performance, while using body composition measurement instead of anthropometric measurement alone can further enhance the performance of the GLIM criteria.

CT-Determined Sarcopenia in GLIM-Defined Malnutrition and Prediction of 6-Month Mortality in Cancer Inpatients

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical application of L3-CT-determined sarcopenia as a marker of muscle mass in cancer inpatients diagnosed with malnutrition according to the GLIM criteria and its association with 6-month mortality. The results showed that a high percentage of patients had low muscle mass, and malnourished patients according to the GLIM criteria using SMI had an increased risk of 6-month mortality. The findings suggest that CT-determined sarcopenic malnutrition can predict 6-month mortality in cancer inpatients.
