Kinetics of the thermal degradation of phenolic compounds from achiote leaves (Bixa orellana L.) and its effect on the antioxidant activity

Jose Edgar Zapata et al.

Summary: This work evaluates the effect of temperature and soluble solids on the degradation rate of phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity of extracts from Bixa orellana L. leaves. The results show that the thermal degradation of phenolic compounds and the loss of antioxidant activity follow first-order kinetics, depending on temperature, soluble solids, and pH.

Factors impacting the antioxidant/prooxidant activity of tea polyphenols on lipids and proteins in oil-in-water emulsions

Li Tian et al.

Summary: The study found that tea polyphenols have different effects on the oxidation of lipids and proteins in food under different conditions. In walnut oil emulsions, lower concentrations of TP showed stronger antioxidant effects, while higher concentrations had prooxidant activity. The addition of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid can inhibit oxidation, but its antioxidant activity decreases in the presence of TP.

Oxidative Stress-Induced Hypertension of Developmental Origins: Preventive Aspects of Antioxidant Therapy

You-Lin Tain et al.

Summary: Oxidative stress plays a crucial role in the developmental origins of hypertension, as early-life oxidative stress leads to developmental programming in key blood pressure-controlled organs and subsequently results in hypertension in adulthood. Antioxidant therapy has the potential to lower blood pressure and serves as a novel preventive strategy for hypertension with developmental origins.

Primaquine Loaded Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLN), Nanostructured Lipid Carriers (NLC), and Nanoemulsion (NE): Effect of Lipid Matrix and Surfactant on Drug Entrapment, in vitro Release, and ex vivo Hemolysis

Kai-Wei Wu et al.

Summary: Primaquine is an antimalarial drug that can be delivered using nanoparticle carriers to achieve higher concentrations at the target site, reducing systemic toxicity. Three lipid-based drug carriers loaded with primaquine showed stable release and high entrapment efficiency, with the potential for improved long-term stability after lyophilization. Treatment with these carriers also demonstrated a significant reduction in erythrocyte hemolysis compared to the free drug solution.

Summary: Nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) are a new generation of lipid vehicles composed of saturated lipids with small drops of liquid oil dispersed into the inner lipid matrix and stabilized by a surfactant. Researchers are studying the composition and self-assembly properties of NLCs to enhance their performance and structure. The results show that NLCs may exist in four different states, providing new insights for developing high-performance NLCs.
