Mahmoud F. Mubarak et al.

Summary: Magnetic core-shell TiO2@CoFe3O4 (TCM) composite photocatalytic particles with a core-shell structure were synthesized and tested for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye and adsorption of heavy-metal ion Pb(II). Analytical techniques confirmed the formation of TCM core-shell and its properties. TCM showed high adsorption efficiency and photocatalytic performance, and could be reused.

Green and efficient removal of heavy metals from Porphyra haitanensis using natural deep eutectic solvents

Xi Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of 28 kinds of NADESs as eluents for heavy metal removal from Porphyra haitanensis, achieving removal rates ranging from 17.4% to 100%. The optimal condition included 10% water content and a solid-liquid ratio of 1:20, with the addition of 20% natural surfactant arabic gum further enhancing heavy metal removal rates. Adsorption mechanism experiments revealed that the pseudo second-order model and Freundlich adsorption model can better explain the adsorption mechanism of NADESs on heavy metals removal.

Efficiency of water treatment with crushed shell of jatoba-do-cerrado (Hymenaea stigonocarpa) fruit to adsorb Cu(II) and Ni(II) ions: experimental and quantum chemical assessment of the complexation process

Cleciane Souza Sales et al.

Summary: The shell of the jatoba-do-cerrado tree in Brazil was modified and used as an effective adsorbent for removing Cu(II) and Ni(II) ions from aqueous solutions. The adsorbents showed higher selectivity towards Cu ions (II) and the adsorption process was found to be physical in nature. Experimental and theoretical results suggested that the modified fruit shell has great potential for removing metal ions in aqueous systems.

Using of Sukkari and Khalas Date Pits as a Bio-adsorbents for Adsorption of Lead and Copper Ions from Waste Water

Abdulrahman G. Alhamzani

Summary: In this study, date pits from two types of date-palm trees in Saudi Arabia were used as bio-sorbents to remove heavy metals from aqueous solutions. The adsorption capacity of the bio-sorbents increased with higher concentrations of metal ions. Equilibrium time and different metal concentrations were found to be key factors affecting the adsorption capacity of the bio-sorbents. Different types of date pits showed varying maximum adsorption capacities for lead and copper ions at room temperature. Adsorption equilibrium isotherm models, namely Langmuir and Freundlich models, were utilized to analyze and describe the experimental results accurately.

Modification of coconut shell-based activated carbon and purification of wastewater

Zhihua Deng et al.

Summary: The study investigated the purification of wastewater containing heavy metals using coconut shell-based activated carbon modified by different agents. The modification significantly reduced adsorption equilibrium time, decreased carbon adsorbent addition, and improved removal purification. The agents of acid, alkali, and potassium showed better impact on purification than iron salt, successfully removing over 90% of pollutants with a 1-g dosage of adsorbent. Additionally, increasing adsorption reaction time and the amount of adsorbent showed a direct relationship to the adsorption effect.

Thermodynamic and kinetic studies of heavy metal adsorption by modified nano-zeolite

Hossein Kamran Haghighi et al.

Summary: In this study, nano-sized clinoptilolite zeolite was used for heavy metal removal with increasing adsorption efficiency at higher pH, metal concentrations, and temperatures. Thermodynamic evaluations showed spontaneous behavior and Langmuir models fit better for Ni(2+) and Cu2+, while Freundlich model fit better for Cd+2 in adsorption isotherms. Pseudo-second-order kinetic model was selected to interpret the experimental data.
