Summary: The study shows that NDM-1 is more common than IMP-1, leading to meropenem resistance due to higher bla(NDM-1) expression, but with a higher fitness cost. On the other hand, a modified bla(NDM-1) reduces MBL production, lowering fitness cost and resulting in no resistance. However, a ramR mutation causing reduced NDM-1 production leads to meropenem resistance in certain strains.
