Bisphenol S degradation via persulfate activation under UV-LED using mixed catalysts: Synergistic effect of Cu-TiO2 and Zn-TiO2 for catalysis

Yanlin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study utilized a photocatalyst composed of Zn-TiO2 and Cu-TiO2 to activate persulfate for Bisphenol S degradation, showing a significant synergistic effect between the two catalysts. The combination of Zn-TiO2 and Cu-TiO2 resulted in a 100% removal rate of BPS in 18 minutes, outperforming the individual catalysts. The generation of superoxide radicals and the redox cycles of Cu (II)/Cu(I) were identified as the mechanisms behind the synergistic effect, offering a new and effective approach for improving reaction efficiency in wastewater treatment applications.

Silver decorated ZnO photocatalyst for effective removal of reactive red azo dye and ofloxacin antibiotic under solar light irradiation

Tammanoon Chankhanittha et al.

Summary: In this study, the incorporation of silver on ZnO photocatalyst significantly enhanced its visible-light-responsive performance and anti-photocorrosion property by creating a Schottky barrier at the silver/ZnO interface, leading to improved quantum efficiency and photocatalytic activity. Furthermore, the red shift in the absorption band towards the visible region due to the local surface plasmon resonance effect of the metallic silver also contributes to the enhanced photoactivity. The research findings suggest a novel approach for the fabrication of a promising silver-decorated ZnO photocatalyst for detoxification of organic pollutants in wastewater, showcasing excellent reusability and structural stability.
