Strong Second- and Third-Harmonic Generation in 1D Chiral Hybrid Bismuth Halides

Li Yao et al.

Summary: Breaking the symmetry of crystal structures can enable even-order nonlinear activities, such as second-harmonic generation. The designed chiral hybrid bismuth halides with naturally nonsymmetrical structure exhibit superior effective second-harmonic generation and third-harmonic generation performances compared to traditional nonlinear crystals, showcasing promising potential for nonlinear optical applications.

Unique Unilateral-Chelated Mode-Induced d-p-π Interaction Enhances Second-Harmonic Generation Response in New Ln3LiMS7 Family

Ya Yang et al.

Summary: Multiple chelated configurations of anionic groups provide a great opportunity to design new nonlinear optical materials for infrared applications, as shown in the successful synthesis of the polar Ln(3)LiMS(7) family with promising NLO effects and high laser damage thresholds. First-principles calculations reveal that the NLO effects of these materials stem from the synergistic effect of intrinsic dipole moments and d-p delocalized-pi electron-induced dipole oscillations.
