The power of genomic estimated breeding values for selection when using a finite population size in genetic improvement of tetraploid potato

Catja Selga et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of using genomic estimated breeding values (GEBVs) for selection in potato breeding. The results suggest that information from individuals at later stages of selection cannot be effectively utilized for making selections based on GEBVs in earlier clonal generations. The most promising approach for selection using GEBVs was found to be making predictions within full-sib families.

Genome-Based Genotype x Environment Prediction Enhances Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) Improvement Using Pseudo-Diploid and Polysomic Tetraploid Modeling

Rodomiro Ortiz et al.

Summary: This study examines the prediction accuracy of genomic-estimated breeding values for multiple potato cultivars and clones using different models and kernel methods. The results show that prediction accuracy is higher in multi-environment analyses compared to single-environment analyses. The GB model with the marker structure B is the best method for predicting most tuber traits.

Heritable Variation, Genetic and Phenotypic Correlations for Tuber Traits and Host Plant Resistance to Late Blight for Potato Breeding in Scandinavian Testing Sites

Rodomiro Ortiz et al.

Summary: Potato breeding research shows that tuber starch percentage and total tuber weight are the traits with the highest heritability, which can be further improved through recombination and selection. Late blight has a negative and significant impact on potato productivity and quality.
