The Role of Socioeconomic Factors on Women's Risk of Being Exposed to Intimate Partner Violence

Summary: The most important finding about intimate partner violence (IPV) in the past 20 years is that violence is closely related to gender, and it can only be understood in the context of gender inequality. Legal reforms and policies have been implemented in the past decade to promote gender equality. However, the study found that the impact of women's annual income and labor force participation on IPV is unclear.

The Effect of Intimate Partner Violence on the Physical Health and Health-Related Behaviors of Women: A Systematic Review of the Literature

Summary: Research shows that intimate partner violence has negative effects on women's physical health, including worsening menopausal symptoms, increasing the risk of diabetes, contracting sexually transmitted infections, engaging in risky behaviors, developing chronic diseases and pain. It also impacts HIV outcomes. Further long-term studies are needed in this field to better inform healthcare for women who have experienced IPV.

Muslim women's service utilization for intimate partner violence: Front line service providers' perceptions of what constitutes a culturally informed response

Summary: This study explored the involvement of Muslim women in social services in response to intimate partner violence from the perspective of frontline service providers. Current services were found to have barriers including the absence of individualized support and the lack of sensitivity and appropriate response to abuse experiences based on women's culture. Participants suggested a strong collaboration between mainstream services and Muslim centered services, as well as cultural diversity of service providers and ongoing education on culturally informed practices.

Intimate Partner Violence Against Women in the Arab Countries: A Systematic Review of Risk Factors

Summary: This systematic review examines the risk factors for intimate partner violence (IPV) against women in Arab countries. The study finds that factors at individual, family, community, and societal levels are associated with increased violence against women. The complex structure of violence against women in the Arab world calls for socioculturally sensitive interventions, accompanied by systematic and structured work to improve the status of Arab women at all levels.

Socioeconomic and Geographic Correlates of Intimate Partner Violence in Sri Lanka: Analysis of the 2016 Demographic and Health Survey

Summary: A study in Sri Lanka found that women's education level, financial situation, and household wealth were the strongest factors associated with Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), particularly related to physical and/or sexual violence. Women living in post-conflict environments were at higher risk of IPV compared to other areas, with ethnic minority women more likely to experience poverty in these areas. Further research is needed to explore the complex interactions of individual, household, and contextual factors in this setting.

Cultural Beliefs Related to Intimate Partner Violence Help-Seeking among African College Women

Summary: Male to female intimate partner violence among college students is a significant problem in the United States. Most previous research has focused on white college student samples, leaving little known about IPV experiences of African undergraduate women. The qualitative study found that these women preferred seeking help from friends, while family members were seen as the primary source of help for older abused women in their communities.

Economic empowerment programs can have a positive impact on the mental and physical health of IPV survivors.
