Competitive mechanism of temperature-dependent electrical properties in BiFeO3-BaTiO3 ferroelectrics controlled by domain evolution

Chongyang Li et al.

Summary: The temperature-dependent electrical properties of BiFeO3-BaTiO3 ceramics were analyzed, showing a transition from positive to negative temperature coefficient of remanent polarization and negative strain as the BaTiO3 component increases. The evolution of domain size, from macro stripe domain to nanodomain, determines the transition from polarization switching to back-switching process, greatly influencing the temperature-stability of strain properties. These results provide guidance for improving the performance of BF-BT solid solutions.

A-site cation off-centering contribution on ferroelectricity and piezoelectricity in pseudo-cubic perovskite structure of Bi-based lead-free piezoelectrics

Sangwook Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigated the origin of significantly large piezoelectricity and ferroelectricity in 0.67BiFeO(3)-0.33BaTiO(3) ceramics. It was found that despite a small lattice distortion at 300K, the material still exhibited significant piezoelectric properties, attributed to the off-centering of Bi ions. The off-centered Bi ions are believed to contribute to the ferroelectricity and piezoelectricity in a non-centrosymmetric structure with a small lattice distortion.

Nanoscale structural analysis of Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 in high-temperature phases

Yasuhiro Yoneda et al.

Summary: Local structure analysis of the ferroelectric perovskite Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 (BNT) revealed that the local structure is mainly influenced by the diffuse component, with the deviation from the average structure caused by the shift of Bi atoms increasing with temperature. Changes in nanoscale structure with distance are closely related to BNT depolarization phenomena, providing insights for the development of highly functional piezoelectric materials.

Material softening by cation off-centering in Bi-based lead-free piezoelectric ceramics

Sangwook Kim et al.

Summary: The study assessed the origin of material softening in BiFeO3-BaTiO3 ceramics by analyzing the crystal structure and structural parameters. It was found that the stability of the Bi ion off-centering position and the Bi ion off-centering displacement affect the material softening phenomenon. The suggested model of material softening can provide essential information for the design and development of next-generation lead-free piezoelectric materials.
