Extracting terrestrial water storage signals from GRACE solutions in the Amazon Basin using an iterative filtering approach

Lun Pu et al.

Summary: Estimating terrestrial water storage (TWS) using the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) data is important for water resources management. However, the accuracy of TWS estimation using GRACE data is limited by noise. This study proposes an iterative filtering (IF) method to improve the accuracy and efficiency of TWS extraction in the Amazon Basin. Results show that the IF method reduces the error and improves the signal-to-noise ratio of TWS anomalies, achieving comparable accuracy to mass concentration solutions in the Amazon Basin.

Assessment of GRACE/GRACE Follow-On Terrestrial Water Storage Estimates Using an Improved Forward Modeling Method: A Case Study in Africa

Hao Zhou et al.

Summary: This study develops an improved forward modeling method to reduce leakage errors in estimating terrestrial water storage over Africa. The results show that the improved method is effective in reducing leakage errors, especially in small size river basins. The study also demonstrates the importance of careful evaluation of different approaches when using hydrological models.

The impact of error covariance matrix structure of GRACE's gravity solution on the mass flux estimates of Greenland ice sheet

Jiangjun Ran et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the impact of four different error variance-covariance matrix structures on mass transport estimates in Greenland based on monthly GRACE solutions, finding that the diagonal structure obtains the best estimates for recovering the long-term trend. The study also highlights the importance of considering mascon model deficiencies and the release of block diagonal structures for the GRACE Follow-On mission.

Filling the Data Gaps Within GRACE Missions Using Singular Spectrum Analysis

Shuang Yi et al.

Summary: This study presents a non-parametric, data-adaptive method to fill the missing epochs in the monthly gravity product of satellite missions GRACE and GRACE-FO. Comparison in the spectral domain shows that the method achieves the same signal intensity as GRACE missions for spherical harmonic degrees below 30 and effectively suppresses noise as the degree increases above 30.

Climate change, cryosphere and impacts in the Indian Himalayan Region

A. P. Dimri et al.

Summary: The Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) is experiencing climate change impacts such as increasing temperatures, fluctuating precipitation, declining snow cover, melting glaciers, and various mountain hazards. The region is also facing significant threats from glacial lakes, extreme floods, and landslides, exacerbated by poor land use practices. Climate change is adding stress to traditional agriculture and food systems in the area.

The global water resources and use model WaterGAP v2.2d: model description and evaluation

Hannes Mueller Schmied et al.

Summary: WaterGAP is a global hydrological model that assesses water resources on all land areas of the Earth, particularly focusing on water use and stress under climate change. It improves understanding of continental water storage variations, with a specific focus on overexploitation and depletion of water resources.
