Combination of electrochemical unit and ESI-MS in fragmentation of flavonoids

Gulyaim N. Sagandykova et al.

Summary: The study assessed the fragmentation activity relationships of selected flavonoids using electrochemical unit coupled to electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Results showed potential for the proposed approach to be used in plant sciences as a fast pre-screening tool for newly isolated bioactive compounds.

Anti-Cancer and Electrochemical Properties of Thiogenistein-New Biologically Active Compound

Summary: The study investigates the oxidative properties of a new thiolated genistein analog on a gold electrode, revealing one irreversible and one quasi-reversible oxidation reaction in PBS buffer. Further experiments show that the analog exhibits higher cytotoxic activity towards prostate cancer cells and is safer for normal prostate epithelial cells compared to genistein itself.

Thiolated-Polymer-Based Nanoparticles as an Avant-Garde Approach for Anticancer Therapies-Reviewing Thiomers from Chitosan and Hyaluronic Acid

Roberto Grosso et al.

Summary: Thiomers, or thiolated polymers, have emerged as avant-garde approaches in anticancer therapy due to their reactivity and properties closely related to their applications. Research has shown that thiol-rich nanoformulations can address major drawbacks in administering various active pharmaceutical ingredients, especially in cancer therapy. This review focuses on synthetic tools available for thiolating polymers, particularly chitosan and hyaluronic acid, and outlines NP formation procedures, highlighting their use in cancer therapy.

Structure-antioxidant activity relationships in boldine and glaucine: a DFT study

Alejandro Vasquez-Espinal et al.

Summary: Previous experimental results suggest that the benzylic hydrogen in boldine may be crucial for its antioxidant effect, and the hydroxyl groups also contribute to antioxidant activity. Quaternary N-methylated derivatives hinder hydrogen transfer due to nitrogen lone pair sharing, affecting antioxidant effects. Antioxidant activity of boldine and derivatives may involve sequential proton loss electron transfer mechanism at higher pH.
