Genome-Wide Comparative Analysis of the R2R3-MYB Gene Family in Five Solanaceae Species and Identification of Members Regulating Carotenoid Biosynthesis in Wolfberry

Yue Yin et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the R2R3-MYB gene family in wolfberry and other Solanaceae species. A total of 610 R2R3-MYB genes were identified, with 137 in wolfberry. Phylogenetic analysis, conserved gene structures, and motif composition classified the LbaR2R3-MYB genes into 31 subgroups. Only five groups of Solanaceae R2R3-MYB genes showed functional divergence during evolution. Dispersed and whole duplication events played a critical role in expanding the R2R3-MYB gene family. RNA-seq analysis revealed differential gene expression (DEGs) and carotenoid biosynthesis genes (CBGs) during fruit development stages. The highly expressed LbaR2R3-MYB genes were co-expressed with CBGs. qRT-PCR verified two candidate genes regulating carotenoid biosynthesis in wolfberry.

Insights into the evolutionary origin and expansion of the BBX gene family

Liyang Yu et al.

Summary: Through identification and analysis of 208 B-box genes in 18 plant species, this study revealed that the plant B-box gene family can be divided into five structure groups, with groups III and IV having the earliest origin and whole genome duplication being the main driver of family expansion. Analysis of sequence differences in the B-box domains proposed a new evolutionary model for these genes.

Overexpression of SlBBX17 affects plant growth and enhances heat tolerance in tomato

Xin Xu et al.

Summary: SlBBX17 gene plays a dual role in tomato growth and heat tolerance, acting as a negative regulator of plant growth and a positive regulator of heat tolerance. Overexpression of SlBBX17 leads to decreased chlorophyll content and lower net photosynthetic rate, but increased tolerance to heat stress.

Two B-box domain proteins, BBX28 and BBX29, regulate flowering time at low ambient temperature in Arabidopsis

Mei-Jing Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that BBX28 and BBX29 proteins in Arabidopsis promote flowering under low temperature conditions in association with the CO-FT regulatory module. Both BBX28 and BBX29 interact with the CO protein, affecting the transcriptional activation of the FT promoter, thus regulating flowering time under low temperature conditions.

An apple (Malus domestica) AP2/ERF transcription factor modulates carotenoid accumulation

Qingyuan Dang et al.

Summary: In this study, a transcription factor named MdAP2-34 in apple was identified to promote carotenoid accumulation in fruit flesh. This transcription factor participates in the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway and primarily regulates phytoene and beta-carotene accumulation in apple fruits. Overexpression of MdPSY2-1, a major gene in the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway, mainly increases phytoene and total carotenoid contents in apple calli.

Characterization of the pectin methylesterase inhibitor gene family in Rosaceae and role of PbrPMEI23/39/41 in methylesterified pectin distribution in pear pollen tube

Xiaoxuan Zhu et al.

Summary: This study characterized the pectin methylesterase inhibitor gene family in seven Rosaceae species and identified three genes that regulate pollen tube growth in pear. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis revealed that these genes are increasingly expressed during pear pollen tube growth.
