Training Young Horses: The Science behind the Benefits

Alyssa A. Logan et al.

Summary: The review suggests that entering race training at two years of age does not increase the risk of injury in horses and may actually lead to greater earnings and longer race careers. Proper exercise is beneficial for musculoskeletal development, but the widespread use of pain-mitigating substances in the racing industry should be approached with caution.

Targeting Mitochondrial Protein Expression as a Future Approach for Cancer Therapy

Daniela Criscuolo et al.

Summary: Extensive metabolic remodeling is a key feature of cancer cells, with mitochondria playing central roles in cancer development and progression. Coordinated regulation of mitochondrial and cytosolic mRNA translation is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the mitochondrial proteome and functions in cancer cells.

An Overview of Physical Exercise and Antioxidant Supplementation Influences on Skeletal Muscle Oxidative Stress

Shima Taherkhani et al.

Summary: Moderate to high-intensity and short-duration physical activities can lead to overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), causing damage to body tissues, while antioxidant defense systems can control ROS effectively during low to moderate intensity and long-term exercises. In stressful situations, antioxidant supplements can be considered to prevent ROS damage. Further research needs to take into account factors such as dosage and duration of antioxidant supplements, exercise intensity, duration, frequency, among others.

Exercise Training-Induced Extracellular Matrix Protein Adaptation in Locomotor Muscles: A Systematic Review

Efpraxia Kritikaki et al.

Summary: Exercise training induces muscle remodelling accompanied by extracellular matrix (ECM) adaption, which plays a crucial role in muscle adaptation and remodelling processes. Further research on ECM mechanisms could lead to the discovery of novel therapeutic targets for personalized exercise training medicine.

Cox4i2 Triggers an Increase in Reactive Oxygen Species, Leading to Ferroptosis and Apoptosis in HHV7 Infected Schwann Cells

Bowen Chang et al.

Summary: This study established a rat FN model to investigate the mechanism underlying the effects of ROS in HHV7 infection-induced facial nerve damage. The results showed that HHV7 infection increased Cox4i2 expression and oxidative stress in SCs, while knockdown of Cox4i2 relieved oxidative injury and suppressed ferroptosis and apoptosis in HHV7-infected SCs. The study provides insights into the role of Cox4i2 in regulating ROS-induced apoptosis and ferroptosis in HHV7 infected SCs.

Indicators of exhaustion and stress markers in endurance horses

Stefan Djokovic et al.

Summary: Prolonged training and physical effort can negatively impact the performance of endurance horses, especially in demanding venues such as high altitude and bad weather conditions. Oxygen abundance in the blood is a key factor influencing equine performance, and changes in atmospheric pressure at high altitude can accelerate fatigue in horses. The study aimed to investigate the effect of workload in endurance racing on sport horse organisms and found that horses experienced significant physiological changes and stress reactions during and following a 60 km race in Serbia.
