Control of CDH1/E-Cadherin Gene Expression and Release of a Soluble Form of E-Cadherin in SARS-CoV-2 Infected Caco-2 Intestinal Cells: Physiopathological Consequences for the Intestinal Forms of COVID-19

Ikram Omar Osman et al.

Summary: COVID-19 is the largest pandemic in this century, and it is not only characterized by respiratory damage, but also by gastrointestinal symptoms. This study suggests that SARS-CoV-2 may cause damage to the epithelial barrier of the intestines by disrupting E-cadherin adherens junctions, leading to gastrointestinal symptoms.

p120 regulates E-cadherin expression in nasal epithelial cells in chronic rhinosinusitis

Xue-Li Li et al.

Summary: This study found that p120 is involved in regulating the expression of E-cadherin protein in chronic rhinosinusitis. Inflammatory mediators reduce the expression of E-cadherin and p120 and increase paracellular permeability. Dexamethasone can alleviate the reduction of E-cadherin and p120 caused by inflammatory mediators.

E-Cadherin: Context-Dependent Functions of a Quintessential Epithelial Marker in Metastasis

Cao Fang et al.

Summary: Loss of E-cadherin is not only linked to cancer metastasis, but also influences cell signaling events and cellular plasticity. This study highlighted the importance of E-cadherin as a global regulator in driving EMT and the metastatic phenotype, inspiring further research in the field.

Circular RNA-encoded oncogenic E-cadherin variant promotes glioblastoma tumorigenicity through activation of EGFR-STAT3 signalling

Xinya Gao et al.

Summary: The activation of EGFR signalling in GBM is driven by a newly discovered secretory E-cadherin protein variant called C-E-Cad encoded by circular RNA. This mechanism promotes tumorigenicity in glioma stem cells and provides a promising approach for treating EGFR-driven GBM by enhancing the efficacy of anti-EGFR strategies.
