Regulation of phenylpropanoid metabolism during moderate freezing and post-freezing recovery in Dendrobium of?cinale

Xinqiao Zhan et al.

Summary: This study revealed the regulation of phenylpropanoid metabolism during freezing stress and post-freezing recovery in Dendrobium officinale. The results showed significant increases in anthocyanins and flavonols during post-freezing recovery. Transcriptomics analysis identified genes related to quercetin derivative production. In addition, hormone-related genes and specific genes associated with freezing stress and hormone responses were also identified. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the phenylpropanoid metabolism in response to freezing stress and can contribute to enhancing freezing tolerance in D. officinale.

Early transcriptional response of terpenoid metabolism to Colletotrichum gloeosporioides in a resistant wild strawberry Fragaria nilgerrensis

Nasir Mehmood et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of terpenoid and terpene genes in response to Colletotrichum gloeosporioides in wild strawberry species. The findings showed an up-regulation of terpenoid metabolism genes and a significant accumulation of sesquiterpenes upon infection, indicating a possible link to anthracnose resistance. The results suggest that induced terpenoid metabolism may play a crucial role in the defense response of strawberries against fungal pathogens.

Isolongifolene mitigates rotenone-induced dopamine depletion and motor deficits through anti-oxidative and anti-apoptotic effects in a rat model of Parkinson ' s disease

Rengasamy Balakrishnan et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the neuroprotective effect of Isolongifolene (ILF) on a rotenone-induced rat model of Parkinson's disease. ILF dose-dependently ameliorated striatal dopamine loss and motor impairment caused by rotenone by exerting antioxidant and anti-apoptotic effects in the rats.

Evolution of Terpene Synthases in Orchidaceae

Li-Min Huang et al.

Summary: Terpenoids are important compounds in plants with functions of attracting pollinators, defense, and insecticidal properties. The evolution of terpene synthases (TPSs) in Orchidaceae, one of the largest and most diverse families of flowering plants, shows a diversification pattern with increased duplicated copies in derived orchid species.

Phylogenetic relationships of sucrose transporters (SUTs) in plants and genome-wide characterization of SUT genes in Orchidaceae reveal roles in floral organ development

Yunzhu Wang et al.

Summary: Sucrose transporters (SUTs) play vital roles in sucrose allocation within cells and whole-plant level. Our study analyzed SUT genes in 24 plant species and investigated sucrose partitioning and gene expression in Orchidaceae species, showing sucrose enrichment in flowers and important functions of SUTs in floral development.
